We are actively involved in outreach activities in a number of different spheres. Contact us {internal link} if you are interested to recruit the lab to a particular outreach event.

We are particularly interested in applying our scientific knowledge and skills to applied problems in our community. For example, we have conducted pollinator surveys to asses the (very effective!) pollinator plantings that Trees Atlanta has installed on the Atlanta Beltline.

We have been involved in scientific education outreach at several schools and educational programs, including among others:

  • Mary Lin Elementary School Science Night
  • Freedom Middle School Careers in Science event
  • Inman Park Cooperative Preschool pollinator garden plantings
  • Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory children’s nature camp

We have participated in several science festivals, including:

  • Atlanta Science Festival lab tours
  • Atlanta Science Festival public talk (>200 people in attendance)
  • Emory Sustainable Food Fair (2014, 2015, 2016)

Berry and others in the lab have given a number of other public scientific talks, including:

  • Chattahoochee Nature Center
  • Pine Mountain Settlement School, Bledsoe, KY
  • Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, Crested Butte, CO (various)
  • Emory University (various)
  • Golden Gate Audubon Society, Berkeley, CA
  • Environmental Forum of Marin, Sausalito, CA

Berry and others in the lab have also participated in several public scientific tours and activities at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory and the Crested Butte Land Trust.

We have also spoken specifically to many beekeeper’s organizations (often including some education in there about native bees), including:

  • Eastern Apicultural Society
  • Kentucky State Beekeeper’s Association
  • San Francisco (CA) Beekeeper’s Association
  • Gwinnet County Beekeeper’s Association, Dacula, GA
  • Clarks Hill Beekeeper’s Association, Augusta, GA
  • Metropolitan Atlanta Beekeeper’s Association, Atlanta, GA
